The great thing about Uplay is that it has a built-in forum where a lot of support questions can be asked and answered. However, I would hesitate to use it on a gaming console for fear of running into a troll. There's no need to install and use Uplay on a gaming console like the Wii, just use the Wii online play service as an alternative.
Update 2: Ubisoft has posted a statement to the Uplay support forum. The statement claims that in some cases it takes longer for support to respond to the forums as it does to their Windows phone support (it could be a lot of things, but it's a pretty strange time for someone to be supporting a Windows phone). I'm still keeping my eyes open for any problems that I may have run into. I did receive a response from Ubisoft's support line though.

I have been playing a lot of single-player games and a few multiplayer ones lately, so I have gotten used to having to install something before playing a new game. I don't mind doing that so much if it's just for a short time, but it would be nice if there was an offline mode for Uplay where you could have your game download once when you launch it and then you can play it without an Internet connection.
I was able to play the single-player mode of Assassin's Creed 2, but wasn't able to select from any of the language options because the game couldn't connect to Ubisoft's servers. I tried it yesterday afternoon and it was working fine.
To sum up, I can play Assassin's Creed 2 fine in the single-player mode, but the multiplayer modes are offline. It seems to me that Ubisoft should have implemented an offline mode for their service as an option. If they didn't, it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to implement.
